Motor Skills

I have difficulty with small tasks like printing, managing fasteners on my clothing or using scissors.

I have trouble keeping up in class with writing activities.

I seem clumsy and I have started to avoid gym and other sports.

I have a disability and I want to be more independent.

Our Occupational Therapists may assist with:

  • Assessment of motor development to see where the specific challenges are. This can help to provide a roadmap for strategies.
  • Direct teaching of motor skills to increase independence and confidence. This can include dressing, managing fasteners, using utensils or opening containers.
  • Printing skills to improve legibility and efficiency
  • Adapting activities to increase a person’s independence with tasks they want or need to do on their own. We can help to find different ways of doing a task.
  • Using technology to adapt a task to increase independence.
